Assessment

Key Stage 1 and 2

Children in Key Stage 1 and 2  are assessed against age-specific expectations for each year group throughout the year. At parent / teacher consultations you will be informed about how your child is progressing and achieving in school. It is important to realise that the progress your child makes is separate to the age-expected level they are at. We will let you know if your child is working within their current year group. Children will have targets to help them see what their next steps are throughout the year.  We use a mixture of formative assessments, which are our ongoing daily assessments of how the children are getting on in lessons, and tests which are summative assessments to help us make our judgements about where the children are working. We moderate these to make sure our judgements are accurate.

In the end of the academic year report and at our parent meetings throughout the year, we let you know how your child is working in relation to their current year group expectations.  If at any point you would like some more information about how your child is working at school, please speak to your child's class teacher or send them a message on Dojo.

Below are the terms you will see on your child's report at the end of the year and what these mean, we will be using these terms to report to you on how your child is achieving in Maths, Reading and Writing.

National Assessments / Tests

There are national tests at the end of Key Stage 2 for pupils in Year 6. These are in Reading, Maths and GPaS. Teachers also assess the children's writing against the Key Stage Two writing expectations.

Year 1 have a Phonic Check which looks at a child's phonic knowledge and their ability to use phonics to read words. This is a mixture of real words and nonsense words.  Results of this are reported to parents in Year 1. If a child does not pass the phonic check in Year 1 they will take it again in Year 2.

Year 4 complete the Multiplication Check in the summer term of Year 4.

Foundation Stage (EYFS)

At the start of Reception children complete the statutory Baseline Assessment within their first six weeks of school.

Children in the Foundation Stage have a separate curriculum. They will be assessed throughout the year against the Development Matters and parents will be informed at parent / teacher consultations about how their child is progressing and what their next steps are.

At the end of the Foundation Stage, children are assessed against the 17 Early Learning Goals. A report will go home to parents at the end of Foundation Stage to let parents know about their child's progress and achievement against these Early Learning Goals.
